FAQ's:
What is this election about?
Here it is very simply... should a non-partisan commission draw political districts, or Politicians?
How did we get here?
In November of 2020, Virginia ratified a new amendment to our state constitution that established a non-partisan commission to draw political districts, rather than politicians in Richmond. This passed with nearly 66% of voters supporting the idea; only one locality (Arlington County) rejected it.
Fast foward to 2025 & 2026, Democrats in Richmond want to change this back to the "old way" by letting politicians carve up Virginia as they see fit.
Do we know what the maps would look like?
Yep. Look for yourself.

Chris' Opinion & Conclusion
The proposed map that will be adopted if this amendment passes in April is the very definition of "gerrymandering" (noun: the manipulation of an electoral constituency's boundaries so as to favor one party or class).
Why should a congressional district run from Pentagon City in Arlington County to the West Virginia border and the outskirts of Richmond (proposed district number seven).
There is only one reason... so one party gains power. That's it.
But taking the politics away for just a moment... for the cattle-rancher in Appomattox, the vinyard outside of Culpepper, or the family farmer in Pittsylvania County -- their voice in Washingtong is lost to the sprawling and winding map that finds its way into Northern Virginia.
In the proposed map above, Fairfax county/Northern Virginia would jump from 3 to 5 seats overnight. Central and southside Virginia's voice would be totally forgotten...
Gerrymandering is wrong when Republicans do it in Texas and when Democrats do it in Virginia. Regardless of the political implications in either direction, maps should reflect communities of interest, be compact, and just make sense.
