— Faraldi Praises School Board, Commits To Find The Solution To Pay for New Sandusky Elementary —
Lynchburg, VA — The Lynchburg City School Board voted 7-2 to alter course and cast a vision for the future. The motion tonight that was adopted overturned the initial plan to close Sandusky and TC Miller Elementary Schools, and it also cast a path for re-building Sandusky Elementary.
Vice Mayor Chris Faraldi, who serves as the Ward IV Representative on City Council, has joined with dozens of parents, serving as a loud and outspoken proponent for protecting Sandusky Elementary School (which resides in Ward IV) over these last months. This vote does that, it protects Ward IV and ensures the Ward is not unduly impacted by a closure of Sandusky.
Much remains to be seen for rebuilding Sandusky Elementary; however, the Vice Mayor praises the vote, leadership, and vision of the Board. He still maintains redistricting of elementary districts should lay the foundation for this path. He is also committed to roll up his sleeves and work to find the funds necessary for implementing this plan.
Vice Mayor Faraldi issued the following statement regarding this vote and the future:
This is not a victory for the Board, nor is it one for this Councilman; it is for the parents, families, students, and staff who have rallied together for well over a year in defense of their school. It is a victory for our Ward. It is a victory for our city. I am proud to stand with them.
Re-building Sandusky Elementary School is a vision everyone can get behind, and it is one I certainly will. In the coming weeks and months, I intend to work with my colleagues on Council, City Staff, members of the School Board, and stakeholders, to find creative ways for funding this plan and rebuilding Sandusky without increasing taxes on our neighbors. This can be done!
It has been rightly said that we, as a council, should put your money where our mouth is. I am committed to finding the most fiscally responsible way of doing just that.
More than anything else, I have a duty to serve the constituents of Ward IV, and they have overwhelmingly said this is the path forward. This is their priority, this is our priority ... Let's do it!
